Langley, BC – The City of Langley is injecting social into the mix at the new Timms Community Centre with state-of-the-art Android-based workout equipment. Users can turn the machines into a personal device for the entire duration of their workout by using the Android tools and applications. Technogym equipment enables members to access their fitness data, view their training programs along with descriptions and videos of the exercises, and share information via smartphone. Users can customize and personalize their experience by connecting their electronic devices.
“People are moving away from traditional exercise machines and are looking for a more socialized fitness experience,” said Christine Daum, Recreation Supervisor at the City of Langley. “They want to build their own work out and have the flexibility to share their experience with others.”
“What we are building today is a healthy future for our community,” said Ted Schaffer, Mayor of Langley. “Our vision for the new Timms Community Centre goes beyond a fitness facility and is focused on creating opportunities for everyone to lead a healthy lifestyle. Residents of all ages will come to enjoy the unique experience Timms will provide, and the facility will become a significant addition to downtown Langley. Residents will be able to utilize various tools with their electronic devices to individualize, enhance and socialize their workouts through the use of different Android based workout machines, to the unique indoor amenities.”
The Grand Opening of Timms Community Centre will be taking place on February 24th between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the ceremony and try out the new facility. For the entire event, attendees will have free access to the weight room and games room. Many of Langley’s accredited fitness staff will also be on hand to guide you through the proper use of the equipment and weights at Timms and will also give you some tips on how to get the most effective use out of them.
There will also be free demo classes that include Hatha Yoga, Spin Fit, Ballroom Dancing, Zumba. All demo classes are free, but space is limited. First-Come-First-Serve basis.
